The Kandy Perahera

The Kandy Perahera is one of the most important and glorious festivals of Sri Lanka. It is sponsored by the Dalada Maligawa.The Kandy Perahera is held in the month of Esala (August) in honour of the Sacred Tooth Relic of The Buddha. The Perahera is divided into three sections. The first is the Kumbal Perahera and then comes the Randoli Perahera and the last one is the most beautiful Maha Perahera.

People from all parts of the island visit Kandy to watch this historic pagendyan dancers dressed in traditional costumes go on dancing. They arant. Kae accompanied by drummers. Elephants march behind dancers.
